Mounting Flat Countertop Bracket

Flat Countertop Support Bracket Installation

Flat Countertop Bracket

A flat bracket made of steel designed to support an overhanging countertop. Protects a countertop from cracking and breaking. May be used for all types of stone or wood countertops!

How To Install A Flat Countertop Overhang Bracket

You’ll need to route a slot in your half wall for this bracket to mount into. The depth of this slot depends on the thickness of your brackets. We recommend using a router for this because it will make a cleanly cut slot. Since there will be a countertop resting on top of the half wall, note the slot doesn’t need to fit the bracket absolutely perfectly.

The mounting holes are 1/4″ and countersunk. We recommend mounting the bracket using #12 wood screws that are tapered. This will allow the screw to fit perfectly inside the countersunk hole, which allows the countertop to rest on the bracket without interference.

Once your brackets are installed, push down on them, sit on them, and really yank on them. They should not budge and should be firmly mounted to your half wall. Ensuring this strong mount will confirm your countertop is ready to be installed on top of the bracket.

When installing the countertop on top of these brackets, we recommend using a dab of liquid nails to adhere the countertop to the bracket.

How Many Countertop Brackets To Use:

We recommend spacing brackets out every 24″ – 36″. This spacing depends on the thickness, countertop material, depth of the overhang, etc. Since these brackets are mostly hidden, we recommend “over-engineering” your design to ensure your overhang has no risk of cracking or breaking. Start by installing two brackets on the ends of the half wall where the corners of the granite countertop will be. If a granite or stone countertop cracks are breaks, this most commonly happens on the corners. Once you have brackets supporting the counters of the granite countertop, you want to work your way towards the middle and space your brackets every 24″ – 36″ apart.

Countertop Bracket Length and Thickness

We offer our flat countertop bracket in several lengths and thicknesses. We recommend the bracket to cover 2/3 of the countertop overhang. When you consider the length, measure the length of the half wall and how far you want to bracket to overhang.

When considering the thickness, note the longer the bracket, the easier it will bend. This is why we recommend using thicker brackets for longer lengths. Most of our customers go with a 3/8″ thickness, as this is a perfect mix of heavy duty strength and it’s relatively slim. 1/2″ brackets are extremely strong and mostly used for commercial use or long overhangs. 1/4″ brackets are great for short overhangs and low weight projects.
