Floating Shelf Bracket – Build DIY Wood Shelves
Our Floating Shelf Brackets create a reliably supported wood shelf, without a support bracket being visible! Once the bracket is installed, it will hide behind and inside the shelf itself.
Our bracket design includes small flat bars instead of round dowels, which provides an easier installation process and higher weight capacity. When a round dowel needs to go in a round hole, your measurements need to be absolutely perfect. Our bracket with flat bars will snuggly fit into your shelf holes, as well as giving you some room for error when drilling your installation holes in the rear of your shelf.
The weight limit of our brackets with a solid flat bar is much higher than a round hollow dowel. A hollow bar can easily bend or break. View weight capacities below.
Product Specifications:
Design Specifications:
- Mounting plate (back of bracket) is 1.5″ wide and 1/4″ thick.
- Length of the mounting plate is specified above.
- Flat bars that slide into shelf are 6″ long, 1/2″ tall, 1/4″ thick.
- Bracket is buffed to give smooth edges and eliminate any burrs.
- Powder coated black to prevent against corrosion and rust.
Floating Shelf Brackets Will Support Shelves:
- 7″ – 12″ deep.
- 1.5″ – 6″ thick.
- Weight limit of shelf is specified in diagram.
Number of Extended Flat Dowels per Floating Bracket Size:
- Brackets 10″, 20″, 30″ : 2 bars
- Brackets 40″ : 3 bars
- Brackets 50″, 60″ : 4 bars
Pre-Drilled Mounting Holes:
- Mounting holes are 1/4″ in diameter.
- Mounting holes are 1″ from the end of the bracket and have a 5.25″ separation between each other.
- This will line up with standard 16″ wall stud separation.
- If the holes don’t line up with your studs, drill another 1/4″ to correctly line up with your studs. Bracket is made of solid hot rolled steel, but holes can be drilled with a quality drill bit.
Weight Capacity:
- Make sure high quality hardware is used to secure bracket to wall stud.
- Weight capacities for each bracket size is detailed in the diagram.
- Note: Weight limits are based on a Licensed Professional contractor installing them properly into wood blocking or studs. Drywall anchors WILL NOT hold the same weight listed in diagram.
- If the bracket is mounted with only drywall anchors, refer to the specs on those specific anchors. If you do plan to use only drywall anchors, we recommend using Drywall Toggles instead. A good brand we recommend is TOGGLER from Lowes. Install anchors for every mountain hole for the strongest mount possible.
Installation Tips:
- Hardware Not Included.
- Recommending #12 tapered wood screws 2″ – 3″ long.
- Will support floating shelves with 7″ to 12″ in depth with a thickness of 1.5″ to 6″.
- Order brackets slightly shorter than the width of your shelves to prevent bracket overhang.
- Use our Signature Drill Guides to easily drill holes in your shelf.
- Use a 1/2″ drill bit when drilling holes into your shelf.
- Pre-mark your drilling holes. Flat bars will allow some room for error, but check twice drill once.
- To have the floating bracket be completely hidden from view, you’ll need to use a router to route out the back of the shelf just over 1/4″ for the mounting plate to slide into. See brown shelf photo for reference.
